(Akira, Ejio, Kinotu, Koutetsu) Death Empty
PostSubject: (Akira, Ejio, Kinotu, Koutetsu) Death   (Akira, Ejio, Kinotu, Koutetsu) Death EmptyFri Oct 30, 2015 1:45 am

The air was filled with a hot stink that filled the nose like sickness. It blew out from the cremation piles and swirled the ash into small cyclones. Each miniature tornado carried all that was left of a human form out of this world and into the next.

"I do not understand how you can tolerate being around these...people." The effete voice of Doji Yunagi came muffled through a thick cloth held tight against his face. The Governor of the so-called "eta sub-district" within the Murabai's larger section of the city stood far back from the signs of death. He was only here because decorum demanded it.

Kuni Akira oversaw the preparations of the final body. By rights the task belonged to an Agasha, but as none were immediately available to the task and Akira was knowledgeable of the process, he had volunteered. A shugenja should cremate a shugenja.

Other bodies had preceded Agasha Hiroshi on this day, a day of death.

A peasant ally of Doji Ejio, the man called Ujo, had gone up first. His cremation was granted all proper honors. The Crane lord stood nearby with the two children of Ujo in observation of the scene.

An elderly Shosuro Actress had finished this day as a small cyclone of ash as well. The woman was also an ally of Ejio. Unlike the peasant, however, she had other allies who had taken it upon themselves to provide for this day. A dozen steps from Ejio stood Bayushi Yashino and the Yunaki Governor's daughter, Shosuro Meiyoko. A conversation had been had between Yashino and Ejio regarding the suspected murderer of the dead. It seemed the Scorpion were no longer pleased with the workings of Bayushi Akedare.

The fact did nothing to make Ejio smile.

Other bodies had gone up as well. Half a dozen dead in the last week alone due to mysterious circumstances that hearkened back to the occult murders of the spring and summer. Usagi Kinotu stood by and watched each one, inspecting from afar. A waste of flesh. Kinotu wasn't even sure at this point if that thought belonged to his mentor or if it was his own.

Ashidaka Koutetsu watched as the eta prepared the body under Akira's careful eye. The Agasha was lifted atop a wooden platform and given great honors. Fire was his specialty and through fire he would pass from this world into the next.

Koutetsu could feel the flames as they licked up and began to consume the shugenja. He could feel their heat in his own soul as he pondered what to do about the forge.

The hot wind carried ash and soot on winds of death in a time when cold and winter should have prevailed. All present could feel the wrath and hate of an angry kami, a great spirit of the city, as it consumed what was once a companion.

The hatred and violence, death and destruction was spreading throughout the city. These deaths were but a symptom, a result of the growing conflict. All eyes turned to the Ekohikei, the great Inner City of Otosan Uchi. It was there that matters would soon be put to the test.

The air filled with the hot stink and only the weak coughing of the district governor interrupted the solemn silence.

As a note, this was more an interlude than anything else. Feel free to comment within if you want, but it's not necessary.

The feel of the flames hurt his face; the heat intensified by the powerful sorrow and anger that sought release in his tears. He had been to funerals before but never one so personal. These people died because they were his allies, his friends. These people believed in who he was and what he wanted to accomplish. They had dared to reach across both clan and caste lines. Now they would be nothing but memories. Ejio envied the art of the Ikoma at this moment. He envied the children who clung to his legs for what they could express into his tear dampened kimono. And it was those children that he wished most to cry for now.

He settled his hands on their shoulders and let them weep. He would honor their father. He would honor Ryosin. He would honor Koutetsu's lost friend and mutual ally, Agasha Hiroshi. They would do something that their murderer would never do; become immortal within the Father's Home. When Yunagi spoke his disdainful words, Doji Ejio remained silent. This was not the place for banter or insults. He did channel the quiet violence and stern judgment that his father carried into a single look and turned to face his fellow Doji. He made eye contact only long enough to make sure nothing else would be said before returning his attention to the flames.

The Crane governor turned, of a sudden possessed with the need to be anywhere else. He spoke harshly to his two Imperial guards. “Come. We’re done with this…place.”

Ejio noted the two men fall in line, but only after a barely perceptible pause.

The voice whispered in Kinotu’s mind. They waste so much, but I think this place will soon see its fair share of death. Perhaps we can fill our larder then.

Akira’s attendant finished the last actions of cleaning up the ash, passing the bones, and collecting the result in a thick stone urn. She wrapped the object in a cloth, swaddled like a baby, and handed it to her master.

Koutetsu watched as the earth shugenja took what was left of his Agasha counterpart and felt the pain of yet another loss.
