“Carl. Iced caramel macchiato for Carl.”

“So I was like, hey girl, why don’t you slip some of that whip cream a few other places you can lick, huh?” Carl chuckled to his friend and gave a sly wink to the barista. For her part, the girl smiled politely, but any observer could see her wipe her fingers clean from where the frat boy had touched her.

“You didn’t say that shit, dog. You said…”

Christian tried again to tune out the idiotic banter. His fingers danced across the keys of his laptop, frustrated by the required location.Their wifi is amazing and it’s right next door. Right next door.

“Yo, I didn’t say it, but I thought it. I’ll say it next time. Tell her, baby, plant those two lips.”

“That’s not how it goes, dumbass. You gotta say something about planting it first. Them. The lips.”

Amazing wifi. Right next door.

Christian’s fingers flew faster in an effort to finish the hack and be done with this ridiculous place. He glanced up for a brief second, caught the barista’s eye giving him “the look” and smirked at her through a five o’clock shadow. She blushed a bit and quickly went back to work.

Christian saw the frat boys open up a laptop between them, shadow it against the wall, and obviously start to look up things best not reveled in a public place.

Best wifi. And they’re connected to it.

Christian smirked and hunkered down. He opened another window, unrelated to the task at hand.

“Rachel, your whipped mocha Frappuccino is done. Rachel.”

I hope Marion has some liquor. Or wine. This place is making me thirsty.

Christian saw an opening and took his shot. While Bevis and Asshat were scoping the coffee house to see if Rachel was fuckable, Christian was already into their computer. He had already kept an active list of which IP's were connected to the coffee house wifi up, complete with Mac addresses and all the adorable names that people choose to name their gadgets.

Ladyzman69. "Fucking Christ, really? And running with absolutey no protection, that's how STD's spread my lads?", Christian thought, as he smirked slyly. "Okay Mr. Ladyzman, let's show the rest of the coffee house what you really like to look at in your sparetime." Christian had their display mirrored onto yet another open window on his own latop. "www.pornhub.com, well at least some of their tastes aren't so bad, but lets find something more in line with their exotic tastes".

A quick google search on their address bar later and there it is! The holy grail of all that is porn, Male on Male on Donkey, with a hermaphrodite midget thrown in for kicks. Next, Christian altered the hardware drivers for keyboard and quickly wrote a peice of code that would reboot the system in 5 minutes. The next time the computer booted, it would immediately load the website complete with full sound, it would also load the faulty drivers which would render the keyboards controls useless. "And now ladies an gents, The Show will start in jsut a few moments, please take your seats!" Christian terminated the connection.

"Back to the task at hand, Thorne", Christian noticed that in the few moments it took to invade Ladyzman's laptop, his packet sniffer had done it's job. He now knew the best account to attack. A quick brute force attack to the targeted account was all that was left to do to gain access. Christian loaded Crash, the program he had built and modified for years. Specialized in 2 things, masking the users credentials and pounding the shit out of a targeted accounts password. Looks like the frat boys were about to become useful in the last few moments. Christian loaded their mac address and IP into Crash, and hit ENTER. The attack had begun.

OOC Note: Love Bevis and Asshat.

IC:

“Showtime,” whispered Thorne and the cafe EXPLODED in cacophony. Just in time, too. The boys had been prepping to pack their shit and leave. Carl, that walking Fleshlight, had his hand on the laptop’s screen when it powered down…and then right back up.

“EeeeeAwwww! EEEAWWW!”

“Oh Fuck you dirty biscuit-eating sumbitch! Ride that canyon down the mountain. Deep, deep, deep down!”

“EeeAww!”

“Oh, oh, oh it’s gonna blow!”

Thorne couldn’t help but snicker as every head in the cafe whirled around to the Unambiguous Mental Midgets. First one, then the other shoved the laptop away which had the absolutely lovely effect of whirling the screen to the populace at large.

“EEEAWW!”

“Oh my god!” Thorne had to bite his lip as one man sprayed hot mocha all over his wife. Some hipster on his iPhone v5.4.3.1.1.2 or whatever tipped his drink into his own lap and screamed through a greasy goatee.

Something told the Irraka to look right. Rachel stared right at him and the smirk slipped from his features. Her eyes narrowed and she turned.

Ah, shit.

Thorne tapped quickly and brought up the chat window that would message Marion’s boys to come pick him up. The job was done. Time to get paid.

Thorne glanced over at the two morons who, finally after prodigious clicking, decided to smash the laptop into the side of the table.

“DUDE! That cost like a grand!”

Thorne wanted to do more. He had it all at his fingertips. Their social media accounts, their credit cards, student loans. But that growly voice, his own voice, echoed from somewhere back in his mind.

Respect Your Prey

They weren’t aggressive predators. Thorne’s brief romp through their computer had shown them to be no more than fucking simpletons. And they didn’t even know they were being attacked.

One doesn’t flash a deer to shoot it. But the temptation was high.

Thorne glanced back over at Rachel as he finished packing. She made a point of writing on a card. Her number. He knew. She slipped it across the counter in his direction, filled up a cup with whip cream, and plopped it on top.

“Your order is ready.”

The Uratha Shall Cleave to the Human

Now that Oath, he liked.

Lights flashed outside.

Time to go!

With a slight bow to Rachael, complete with a sly grin, Christian was off to his ride to wrap this day's adventure up. Hopefully with enough time left to get back in time to catch the newest episode of Mythbusters.

Hopping into the back seat of the old four-door Cadillac, Christian let out a chuckle. "What's so friggin funny Blondy?" Louie, who was in the drivers seat asked while 2 other younger stockier men found their seats on either side of Christian."This car looks exactly like the one from the movie 8 Mile, you know the one Rabbit and his friend fix only to have it break down after the paintball drive by" Christian replied.

"Hrmmph" Louie replied as he put the car into gear and gave it gas. The 2 goons didn't even make so much as a flinch. "Happy Birthday Rabbit, here's a brand new car you can", Christian began to sing loudly with an exaggerated southern draw."Shut the fuck up Blondy, or they will shut your mouth for you!" Louie bellowed.

Goon One, the younger Black male to Christian's right and otherwise known as Jacob Barnes, turned and faced Christian with a smile. Goon Two, Juong Lin, an Asian looking fellow that could stunt double for Jet Li, just continued to blankly stare out the window as the various pawnshop and liquor store combos went passing by. This is going to be a long ride, Christian thought to himself.

Thirty minutes later, what seemed like hours to Christian, they arrived at their location. "Boss in?" Asked Christian as they piled out of the vehicle and headed inside the run down laundry mat-bar combo named Drink and Spin.

Drink and Spin. Sit and spin, more like.

Christian Thorne chuckled to himself much to the annoyance of the two men who flanked him.

He saw an older Vietnamese woman serving drinks behind the little bar and nearly kicked himself. Ah, hell. He’d forgotten to grab Rachel’s card. She’d think it a snub after making such a show of slipping it under that cup of cream.

“You guys mind if we go back? Real important, or I wouldn't ask.”

The young black man, Barnes, grunted a no as he pushed open the back door. Thorne watched as he made a show of reaching behind the doorway to pick up a scarred cricket bat.

Shit, he thought. Going to be like that, huh?

The two enforces “guided” Thorne all the way to the back of the building into the small office of Marion Satriani. As he stood before the little desk and stared at Satriani, Christian could not help but think of the man as a sort of bargain basement Godfather. The kind you might find at the Dollar Tree. He chuckled again, but fell silent as the two men pushed in tight on either side.

Satriani looked up with his best performance of “intimidation.” He made a steeple with his fingers, eyes narrowed, and had a long knife on the desk nearby.

“Did you get it done?”

Christian started to respond with his trademark sarcasm, but something in the wannabe mob boss’s posture made him hesitate.

Marion had been sweating. His eyes darted back and forth between his two goons. Christian couldn’t quite pick up on the more subtle scents in the hishu form, but he could almost taste the nervous anticipation in the air.

They are about to fuck me sideways.

Christian didn't have to look past the gauntlet to understand the uneasy feeling in the room. Violence spirits were beginning to gather, he could sense it. Almost instinctively, but controlled to be very subtle, Christian shifted his eyesight to near wolf and began to imagine how the upcoming events would play out. "These prey were hardly worthy, but need to be shown their proper place", Christian thought to himself.

"It's done" said Christian keeping his jovial overtone, "Now if you'll just hand me the enevelope with oh so pretty green slips of paper in it, I'll be out of your hair in no time!" Christian finished. Marion leaned a little further forward, pushing his hands together just a little harder before leaning back in his chair. "You copied all their financial records and managed to erase any trace that was there of myself or my associates?", Marion asked, still trying his best to keep an intimidating demeanor. " Yup" Christian replied. "And all within the span of how long it takes most people to order their coffee?". Christian again replied with a sly smile and a nod, keeping his eye looking down towards the floor and taking the smallest step back. "So uhh, if we are done here, I'll just take my payment please and hit the road." Christian put a little quiver to the voice this time, trying to fake being intimidated, again keeping his eyes low. Christian did notice a very small window at the back of the room, and through it could see that at this point it had turned dark outside. "Perfect" he thought to himself.

Marion was still sitting as mighty as he could in his seat. now he was back to leaning forward and a somewhat malicious smile was starting to form on his lips. "You are better than one could have hoped! Excellent job! But," Marion's voice now very somber, "I suppose this is the part where I should apologize for misleading you, Christian. You see, your services are no longer required. Now or ..."

Suddenly the lights in the entire building blinked and went dark. Within that blink, Christian looked up and smiled wildly at Marion. Marion could have sworn in that moment that Christian had the eyes of a demon.

"What the FUCK?!" Marion yelled.

The room erupted into predictable chaos followed just as quickly by predictable movements. Christian had already taken another few steps back by the time Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum pulled their weapons and fired in the dark.

"Sonofabitchyoushotme! Fuckfuckfuck, my foot!" Christian saw Juong Lin hop back in the muzzle flashes. Smelled the fresh blood. Felt a growl deep in his throat.

"He's goin' for tha door!" Christian was doing no such thing, but he saw Jacob Barnes turn and fire in one fluid motion.

Marion roared. "Lights you dipshits! Turn on your phones or some shit!"

Movement and Christian knew Marion had dived beneath the desk.

He was in control. They were confused. But it would not take long for even these idiotic prey to regain their senses and three on one were not good odds.

Sounds good on the Nightfall.

Christian decided it was time to cut his losses. He didn't want it to go down like this, but hey, you play what you're delt right? Christian grabbed for his twin Baretta FS .40 cals and squared up his shots. He knew he had a few more moments before they would figure out their cellphones wouldn't work, but he knew at least Marion and Jacob were smokers and that meant sooner or later one of them would use a lighter to find their way in the dark. But with Jacob already wounded, Jackie Chan was the only real threat left. Juong was only standing 6ft away from Christian and was partially in the moonlight Christian was standing in the dark behind the rays of. Christian could see all he needed to see for center mass...

BANG! BANG!
Roll gunshots at Juong: 2#7d10o9h8 5 2
*OOC: Subtract 1 success from roll due to my own stupidity lol, forgot second shot was at a -1.

Two shots from Christian's twins rang out barely half a second apart. Both hitting their intended target, everyone's favorite kung fu stunt double. Juong never saw it coming and tried to take an instinctual step towards the door but lost his footing and crumpled onto the floor face down.

"Now, for Tweedle Dum." Christian thought. There was also a feint odor that was new to the air. Christian was positive that someone in the room had just pissed themselves.

Christian heard the drawer open and knew that Marion had a piece hidden away. By the sound of the clunk it made when it smacked against the desk, Christian knew it was a sawed-off shotgun.

Without thinking, he slipped to the side, behind Jacob.

BLADDOW!

Christian heard the explosion of the gun and saw moonlight through the door where he had been standing before. Another shot rang out, followed by half a dozen more as the whole gang fired upon that sliver of light.

"Fucking phone won't turn on, boss!"

Christian heard someone drop a metal lighter on the floor.

Chaos reigned. In a few seconds, someone would see him. If it was Marion and that beast of a gun, he might spend a few nights licking his wounds.

Time to end this.

Christian knew that Marion was still hiding under his desk for dear life. Christian knew that soon they would go for the lighter and try to burn something for light, which would take away a major advantage. Christian even knew that there was the possibility of reinforcements coming soon, but even with all of this on his mind, he still could not quit thinking that in this moment, Marion seemed alot like Elmer Fudd in a Looney Toons cartoon waiting to get the jump on the "waskily wabbit".

Christian smirked and quickly returned to matters at hand with a quick shove to Jacob causing him lurch forward quickly, stopping in the now partially moonlit doorway. Christian then dropped prone, and with both guns once again took aim with one gun trained on Jacob and the other just above the top of the desk. This time he would take out Marion and get Jacob disposed of for free if his decoy worked. If not, well that's why he brought the second gun.

*OOC - Holding action until Marion raises up to fire, until Jacob gets shot or until Jacob Attempts retaliation. Will then either shoot at Marion or shoot at both Marion and Jacob

Scratch. Flick. Burn.

Marion came up over the top of the desk his own zippo flaring to life. The sawed-off held straight-armed directly at the figure in the door.

"Got you now you piece of...the fuck?" Marion barely restrained the trigger almost blowing Jacob away. The would-be mob boss glanced sideways in the new light and saw Christian, guns waiting.

"Mother - "

"BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!", Christian had a thing about an even number of shots. Odd numbers just seemed a bit tacky and unprofessional. "Clink! Clink, clink." The zippo hit the floor before the Marion's new and improved ventilated body hit the floor. Christian now had a puzzled and slightly amused look on his face, not that Jacob could clearly see it.

"Gun vs Bat, no no wait Gunman vs BATMAN! What's you're move Jacob? Think that woody in your hands can take me places that Marion's stubby couldn't?"

Christian now had the twins pointing directly at Jacob.

Clunk.

The hollow sound of wood rang out as the bat hit the floor, bounced up once, and rolled under the desk. A tangy scent filled the air that even Christian’s hishu nose was able to identify. The steady stream pooled at Jacob’s feet. His hands rose slowly into the air.

“Uh, look man, I didn’t, I mean,” Jacob closed his eyes, took a deep breath. “Look man, he paid us. That’s it. Nothing personal.”

Jacob opened his eyes. The darted back and forth, uncertain as to which barrel to look down.

“Come on man. Come on.” Jacob gulped. “Give a guy a break. I mean, can’t we work something out?”

A soft vibration rang out on the desk. Christian’s phone bounced a few centimeters from where they had tossed it before. The screen lit up and he could see the name Rachel and the beginning of a message Just got off wo….

"Lucky break Jacko boy o' boy!" Christian replied after a quick glance at the phone and it's partial messege. "Run along now kid, daddy has to freshen up for his date." Christian waved a couple of times with the guns to motion for the back door. "Ohh Jacob darling, don't forget milk and bread on your way back home! And also do not doubt that if you tell anyone about me, you're dead..."

Jacob by this time had already made it to the threshold of the back door by the time Christian's limerick rang out. Jacob nodded in understanding and scurried off out the door into the alleyway. Christian spent a few minutes more at the computer on Marion's desk which some how, despite the gun fight, wasnt riddled with holes and only covered in a minimal amount of blood.

Once Christian was satisfied that all traces of any recorded evidence, pictures, and/or event notes of his shady dealings and "going away party" were erased, he grabbed his phone and gazed with a slight smirk.

"How the Hells did that fiesty minx get my number?" Christian slightly shrugged, pocketed his phone, and made his way out the back alley and headed back towards the "Amazing Wifi".

Christian walked out taking care to step over the puddle. The encounter was already far behind him by the end of the block. He ran a mental checklist to make sure he had left no loose ends and fought down the nagging need to figure out immediately how the barista had acquired his number.

Another time.

He turned down a shortcut alley, belly rumbling and a hard decision between Pad Thai and Chinese bouncing about when he heard it.

A not-so-subtle hissss..... preceded a sound heard in every Western he could remember. The low, clicking vibration of a rattle echoed back and forth from brick to concrete.

He froze, hands halfway to his guns before he realized...

That wasn't real.

A deep breath to steady himself and two eyes shifted in concert. One held true to the real world and the other revealed the twisted shadowscape of the Hisil in all its glory.

The clicking rattle tattooed the alley. The sound bounced around inside Thorne's bones until he felt the very real danger of that locked in rage clawing its way out. A snake rose up out of the darkness behind a dumpster.

It had a cowboy hat propped atop its head at a slant, an ammo belt wrapped around its body, and what looked like the barrel of a pistol for the tip of its tail.

The sight would have been comical if the rattling sound were not inducing a steady primal fear.

“Gunslinger," the tongue darted out and the words were in Christian's mind having never passed his ears.
We like you, gunslinger. We will watch you. When you are ready, find us at the Court in Boot Hill.”

A lightning flash of movement and the snake was gone, shot like a pistol across the vast Shadow Realm.

Storyteller Note:

Unless there is more you wish to accomplish here, I think this prelude scene is done.

I think we can reliably leave Jacob and Rachel as subtext and potential plot hooks later:

* Rachel - Relations
* Jacob - Potential Contact to squeeze later.
* Rattlesnake Mean - ???

Definitely warrants the Bonus XP as noted:

Prelude XP
