Player Characters
Updated 3 July 2017

Dramatis Personae
The following is a listing of all PCs which have been engaged in the game and their most recent whereabouts and brief history:

The Current Party:

  • Yven, Warlock/Sorcerer, Wild Magic (tinged with the Far Realm); young human male. Yven was a "normal" man until recently "blessed" by the touch of sorcery tainted with the long reach of the Far Realm. He struggles now to deal with this tremendous power and fight back the corruption eating away at his soul.
  • Fioren, Rogue/Fighter, ward of Agrykos; teenage human girl. She seeks to carry on the name of Agrykos and prove to all that she is a worthy successor to his name, his reputation, and his power.
  • Coryn Lanmyr, Druid focused on shapeshifting, Keladr'rhem (wood elf). Known as "Crazy" Coryn, the druid has a habit of eating his enemies once defeated to gain their power. Spent time recently in the Feywild having fallen prey to a trap that forced him there.
  • Doake, ruler of Emerald (formerly Port Town) and head of the Black Lion Trading Company. Gnome Wizard (Illusionist), Doake is skilled in the ways of deception and lies, balancing the precarious alliances of Emerald with an expert hand.
  • Other: Potentially a character played by Cameron. No solid information yet.

Characters That Have Been

Kyle Carroll

  • Dax: Cleric of War, servant of Conn; helped the party achieve the Tower of the Five and defeat its monstrous defender.
  • Yven: Currently played. See above.

Charlie Lane

  • Varik: Witcher; Monster-Hunter Half-elf with a focus against the Elemental Cults. Varik was turned to stone for a time. Since being returned to normal he has spent the majority of his days deep in the jungle trying to forestall the madness he felt trapped in unforgiving stone.
  • Creegan: Barbarian, Cheowakahl native (human). Creegan is currently leading one faction of the Cheowakahl natives against two others in a bid for the rulership of his people. (see below for more information on Creegan).

Paul Lee

  • Audun: Human Rogue. Audun serves as the shadowy hand of Doake within the bounds of the city of Emerald (formerly Port Town). His skill with a blade and penchant for deception aid the gnome in keeping tabs on the myriad enemies of the town.

Camille Petty

  • Rianor: A returned Duava'rhem (dark elf) bard and servant of the Queen of Air and Darkness. Rianor fell after the battle with the Lady of the Dead. As Dax revived others, returning them to life, the dragon's last magic forced a sacrifice. Orion was protected by the Lady of Summer, but Rianor fell dead and lifeless, unable to return.

Kyle Smith

  • Orion: Keladr'rhem (wood elf) Paladin of the Ancients. Orion journeyed to the top of the Tower of the Five, but fell victim to the Star-Spawn's horrific magics. His body was torn apart, turned to vile black matter, and dispersed among the stars.

Logan Turman

  • Coryn: Currently played. See above.
  • Ghesh: Dragonborn Sorcerer, servant of the Lady of Gold. Ghesh allied with the rest of the party in order to return the last eggs of the Lady of Gold from the capture of the Lady of the Dead. Upon his success he returned to the deep jungle and his Mistress. Current whereabouts and actions are unknown.

Jason Weeks

  • Agrykos Deceased. Tiefling Warlock (Fey). Agrykos was the Champion of the Queen of Air and Darkness. Once an officer in the vaunted Black Company, he died and was returned to life by the magic of the Queen. She gave him a quest: find the Night Diamond and release her from her prison in the Tower of the Five. With the help of his allies, Agrykos succeeded, though it cost him his life. Some aspect of his soul lives on in his ward, Fioren, and her magic.
  • Fioren: Currently played. See above.

Nicholas Vaughn

  • Doake: Currently played. See above.
  • Oberon: Keladr'rhem (wood elf) ranger, brother to Orion. Oberon fell victim to a strange magic that left him comatose for a time. Upon revival he joined with the Song Between the Leaves taking joy in the wilds of the jungle.
  • Radegast Deceased. Human male fighter. Radegast was a part of the first adventuring band to set foot upon the returned Merata. He served alongside Salvana the Ranger. His group journeyed into the heart of the Wild Growth intent upon releasing the Queen of Air and Darkness from the Tower of the Five. Somewhere along the way the majority of the group was corrupted with madness, Radegast worst of all. It is still not clear how many of his own companions Radegast killed, but it is known that none survived. Recently, he joined with the players to attempt again what he had previously failed at doing: releasing the Queen. Their success came in part due to Radegast's death.

Roster of the Fallen:

  • Agrykos: After the Star-Spawn had fallen, the Three Grand Ladies, a coven of hags, revealed their final deception. They had long sought the power of the Night Diamond and had achieved the top of the Tower of the Five ahead of the party. Knowing that the group was weakened and in their most vulnerable state, the Three Grand Ladies attacked. So close to his final goal, Agrykos would have none of it. He sighed, took in a deep breath, and whispered "No." He sacrificed himself to the Queen, turning into a pack of shadowy puppies, erupting out to destroy the servants of the hags and the hags themselves. A portion of his soul fled into Fioren as she plunged her dagger into his heart, hoping to save her "father."
  • Radegast: As the characters faced the monstrous Star-Spawn at the top of the Tower of the Five, it became apparent to all that the beast would not die easily. After a hard-fought battle, the beast began to reform, healing amid the stars. It laughed maniacally and told them that it could not be defeated. A voice spoke in Radegast's mind and he realized that he had been brought back from his maddening hell because he was permanently tied to the Star-Spawn. In effect, he was its anchor (or phylactery) in this world. Floating there amid the stars, Radegast plunged his spear deep into his own heart. He fell, along with the Star-Spawn, spear jutting from his chest, words tattooed upon his flesh: "I am the wall upon which the Darkness breaks."
  • Orion: Orion stood tall against the maddening Star-Spawn. As he held up his shield and roared defiance into the insane eyes of the beast, it called forth a dark magic from beyond the stars. Orion was pulled apart, piece by piece, body transformed into the black matter of the void. Nothing exists of him to be brought back and it is thought that he has been lost to time.
  • Rianor: Rianor's story is a tragic tale. Pulled from the Feydark by the wicked machinations of the Three Grand Ladies, a coven of hags, she managed to break free of their control. She joined the players in the hope of achieving the Night Diamond and freeing the Queen. After the final battle with the dracolich known as the Lady of the Dead, two of the party had fallen. When Dax reached out to draw them back to this world the undead dragon's final magic unleashed. It demanded a sacrifice and it found one in Rianor. Something about the vile necromancy has prevented any common method of resurrection and Rianor has gone from this world forever.

Creegan the Scarred (Charlie Lane)

The following information is directly taken from individual character sheets. Please let me know if you would like me to add or modify any of the detail listed below.

Player:
Charlie Lane

Character:
Creegan the Scarred (Barbarian of the Great Maw Totem)
- Previous Character: Varik the Witcher (see below)

Personality Trait: Foul mouth, even more foul temper. Loyal to those I respect, once it's earned.

Ideals: Stay outta my way! Coming between me and my goal could prove fatal.

Bonds: My tribe was slaughtered. Vengeance is coming.

Flaws:  Some are excited by what life has to offer. I am excited by taking that life from my enemies. When I fight, there will be blood.

Backstory:

This tale of Creegan the Scarred begins before the scarring. It begins when life was normal and dare say good for Creegan. It begins in the last days of the Loktheuptu Tribe.

They were a barbaric tribe of humans that worshiped what they called "The Great Maw", a very large and primal creature. The Great Maw is also very aggressive and territorial by nature, and so were its worshipers. The Loktheuptu were equally territorial and defended what was theirs very aggressively. So much so that none of the other neighboring tribes ever tested the boundaries the Loktheuptu etched out.

That is until two of the neighboring tribes were over taken by those that worship the Elemental Eye.

Most of both tribes were converted as slave worshipers of the Eye. Those that refused were put to death on the spot. The followers of the Eye that were once a small army themselves were now bolstered to a full legion. And this legion of the Eye now had its gaze set upon the lands of the Great Maw.

Unknown to the Loktheuptu, the land they occupied held an ancient ritual site of power long forgotten by time. The Elemental Eye followers uncovered this secret and believed it would serve purpose for their cause. They attacked the following day. The attack happened while Creegan was out on an ascension hunt, despite his tribe's seer telling him that this was not the right time for doing so.

Creegan did not see anything worthy of killing for his ascension hunt, and turned back to find his tribe lay in ruins. Dwellings crushed and burnt with some still smoldering. Men, women, and children alike, all lay scattered about dismembered or crushed. The women that were not killed outright were missing clothes, presumably raped and then were beheaded. This was also the case for Creegan's lifemate and son. Sheeka was once a breath-taking female of the tribe of the same age as Creegan. Now her head laid under the table and her body still sprawled on top of it with the bottom pieces of clothing ripped to shreds and bloody. Creegan's son Calren was still against the wall, Held in place by the spear in his chest that pinned him.

Creegan swore that day, that vengeance would come for those who decimated his tribe. No mercy shall be granted. Blood for Blood. Creegan didn't have to look far for his first kill. The Eye had left behind a handful of slaves and 2 overseers as cleanup to make sure those left were all dead. Creegan ambushed the group of 8, taking out the overseers first. The slaves begged and pleaded with Creegan to spare them, that they were only there because the Eye followers made them. Their words fell on deaf ears. Creegan was already in a rage so fierce that he could only see the dead, and those about to be, The slaves fought valiantly, but to no avail. Creegan continued his hunt, but in his rage had lost the trail and ended up deep in the woods and further away from the army of the Eye.

Creegan was captured by the Cult of the Black Earth, but not without a fight that left him covered in cuts and bruises. The Cult of the Black Earth saw strength in him and put Creegan to work in the tunnels to dig for a place they called Wave Echo Cave. During Creegan’s enslavement they never found Wave Echo cave, but there were a few times where they thought they did. It was in one of these false hopes that Creegan found his escape. They had just found a chamber that turned out to be another false hope, but this one was different. Usually the chambers they dug into had been much deeper in the tunnels and always fully enclosed. This one had an opening at the top. This one, would be Creegan’s escape.

Knowing his window of opportunity was closing fast, he grabbed a huge stone from nearby and swung it at the walls of the mouth of the opening as hard as he could, causing the entire mouth to collapse. As the slaves frantically worked to reopen the entrance, Creegan was already up and out the opening in the top of the chamber. Once outside the opening, Creegan could hear voices not far off in the distance through the brush. Creegan began to see red as he thought about the time he had spent captive instead of avenging his tribe, and took off in a sprint towards the voices, screams, and laughs.

The first cultist never saw it coming. Creegan smashed into him at full sprint, sending him face first into a nearby tree breaking his neck. The second one only barely had time to prepare a defense, but did him no good against Creegan’s fury. Creegan had slammed his shoulder into the man’s gut knocking his air from his lungs, and down onto the ground hard. The loss of air kept the second man from screaming as Creegan grabbed the man’s helmet that had clunked down beside them during the impact and bludgeoned him to death with it. It was only after Creegan was covered in blood that he realized what he had just stumbled on and stopped.

There was a cage nearby with a man half beaten to death laying in its corner. Beside that, there was a woman who looked to be tied into a position to be “taken”. Both of them looking at Creegan with absolute terror in their eyes. Creegan couldn’t help to think that these were the very same looks in his lifemate and son’s eyes as the Elemental Eye worshipers had raped and murdered them.

Creegan grabbed the now man without a face’s axe and freed the woman from her bindings. Next he slammed the axe down hard on the makeshift lock holding the cage door closed, releasing the male.  He held his hand out to help up the man, who in turn tried to help the woman before he collapsed onto the ground. The man’s ribs were busted up badly and by his breathing Creegan could hear that a lung had been punctured. This he knew from his own experience.

Creegan now helped both the man and the woman up and they began to leave behind the nightmare that had recently been their reality. It must have been days before they felt themselves sure they were not being pursued by the Cult of the Black Earth. They could only hope good fortune was with them that they had ran farther away from danger, than closer towards it.  Few days later the injured man, Brant Jerrickson was looking even more pale and at this point had to be dragged behind Creegan on a crude sled made from sticks and twine stripped from rubbery bark.

Brant was surely going to die, Creegan was all but certain. They traveled on as far as they could, Creegan pressed on, muscles burning with unnatural fire and heart pumping hard enough to visibly bounce Creegan’s amulet of bones with it’s beating. Each step was taken with great weight. Sight began to dim and tunnel. It was during this time that they managed to stumble across Varik the Witcher on the outskirts of Salvana's Oasis….

DM Notes:
Wears a necklace made of broken bones of his former tribe called The Bones. He speaks to it and says they speak to him.

Physical Description:

-6'2
-265lbs
-Heavily muscled athletic build, borderline bodybuilder
-White Human male, tanned from days spent in the sun.
-Hazel eyes
-Dark Brown hair, cut inthe style of a wider mohawk, but pulled back into a ponytail. When loosened, is shoulder length. Keeps a constant 5 o'clock shadow.
-Face only has 2 scars, while the body is heavily covered. Facial scars are a long jagged scar from a little above the left eyebrow trailing over the eye and to mid cheek (no eye dmg) made by sword, and one across the bridge of his nose made by a spear.
-Bodily scars range from well healed to gnarley. Made by various mishaps through out life. Some are clearly by weapons, some by way of terrian, and a few by hazards (fire, acid, etc).
-Has massive tribal tattoo covering middle of upper back and sprawling across shoulders. Emblem of his tribe looks to be branded in by hot iron, then tattoo'd around.
-Creegan has an heirloom of sorts, a gift presented to him by the Tribes Leader and greatest warrior. A bone necklace that almost looks like a skull and crossbones, but if made with a lizards head instead of a humans. Also the necklaces string seems to be made out of some sort mixture of animal hide twine and possibly horses mane hair or something close. The necklace was only supposed to be given to the tribes greatest warrior (who was also usually their chief). Was awarded to Creegan for saving 2 novice hunters and the tribal leader himself from a bad raptor hunt, during which not only did Creegan kill the raptor pack himself but also a gorilla man.
- Creegan does not usually wear armor but does wear a type of fur kilt with a huge buckled belt (also with tribe emblem, see necklace) that has room for a few potions, and a 2 one handed weapon holsters (can be fitted with more space if needed) Creegan has a bandolier that he attaches a shield and 2 handed weapon, both which affix to his back when holstered.

Audun (Paul Lee)

The following information is directly taken from individual character sheets. Please let me know if you would like me to add or modify any of the detail listed below.

Player:
Paul Lee

Character:
Audun the Thief (Charlatan, Con Man)

Personality Trait: I con people out of their possessions for the thrill.

Ideals: I never run the same con twice.

Bonds: Exiled from everyone that I know and loved, forced to make my way in the world.

Flaws: I will continue a con and get deeper when I should abandon the mark.

Backstory:

Born to a human mother by a Elven father, Audun was abandoned to an orphanage at a very young age. Disliked by the human staff, Half-Elf Audun was left to the streets. Barely surviving, Audun turned to pickpocketing and small time con-artistry on street corners to survive. After catching the attention of Dristan, a member of the Thieves' Guild, he was taken in and inducted in the ways of the Thieves' Guild. However, Dristan had a side endeavor - he frequently ran cons on members of Lesser Nobility not protected by the Thieves' Guild.

After employing Audun in numerous ploys, an overly suspicious guard followed Dristan and beat him to death. With no guidance and protection, Audun broke the Thieves' Guild Code, conning a member of the Higher Nobility out of a shipment of raw rubies and diamonds. Chased by the Thieves' Guild and the Royal Guards alike, Audun fled his city of twenty-two years to pursue marks in a different land.

Previous Characters

The following are characters that have been played in the game but have been temporarily (or permanently) retired. If they return to play I will post more detail on them.

Player: Nicholas Vaughn
Character: Oberon, Ranger
Brief Notes:

Oberon is brother to Orion (see above) and made the journey on The Yellow King with the original party. He vanished into the jungle as the characters made their way to Salvana's Oasis and was later discovered to be a captive of the green dragon Tezzicteca. He was rescued by the party, but the collar about his neck does not seem to be able to be removed and he remains in a coma in the Oasis.

He is a wanderer, naturally at home in the wilds. He also has a pet flying snake called Nephyr.

Player: Charlie Lane
Character: Varik, Witcher
Brief Notes:
Varik, too, came across with the original party on The Yellow King and made it to Salvana's Oasis. A servant of an unusual and esoteric school of monster hunters, Varik spent much of his time tearing apart the slain enemies of the party to harvest them for parts. When Creegan was discovered outside of Salvana's Oasis, near death, Varik was discovered turned to stone by the Prophet of Earth, a medusa named Marlos Urnrayle.

Varik's stone body resides in the Adventurer's Hall created by Agrykos. Here they rest their hats.

Coryn Lanmyr (Logan Turman)

The following information is directly taken from individual character sheets. Please let me know if you would like me to add or modify any of the detail listed below.

Player:
Logan Turman

Character:
"Crazy" Coryn Lanmyr, Beast Druid

Personality Trait: Think Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland

Ideals: Survival of the fittest and let nature take its course.

Bonds: My discovery leads me back to its true home somewhere in Merata.

Flaws: Must eat at least one animal or humanoid every week in beast form.

Backstory:

Coryn Lanmyr was once the youngest member of the Verdant Council, wood elf council composed of accomplished druids. His wisdom and skill in medicine was appreciated by the rest of the council. He was well respected and held in high regard until one day...

While hunting for his dinner, a young dryad came forth from her tree. She was too young to speak, too young to understand the world around her. She reached out with the untouched wood of her fingers and stroked his cheek. Then, she fell to the ground old, shriveled, and dead. Coryn couldn't understand why this had happened, but he prayed over her remains and continued his hunt. The natural order doesn't bury every branch that falls from a tree.

A large bear walked by the area a few hours later carrying the trophy of a deer with a snapped neck in its jaws. The bear, Coryn in one of his "natural" states, looked down to where the dead dryad was but instead found a collar made of twisting branches of the same wood as the dryad. He dropped his kill and sniffed the strange object when it all of a sudden wrapped itself around his neck.  Startled, Coryn jumped back and tried to shake it off. After a couple of seconds he realized that it wasn't trying to choke him. He carefully tried shifting into various different sized beasts but the collar would always change to fit him.

As he walked home sure of that the collar wouldn't hurt him, he noticed something. His footsteps no longer made any sound, but every step caused a quiet whisper in the back of his mind: Atlantys. Tree. Home... Each step was followed by the next word in order over and over and over again. It was never loud enough to drown out the world around him but every now and then he would catch himself whispering the phrase under his breath like a song stuck in your head.

He didn't tell anybody about the strange encounter and conducted his own research in private. Coryn one day asked the head of the Verdant Council about what a tree might have to do with Atlantys. The elder leveled his eyes at him,"There are many trees on that island. I suppose there may be some that are unique to its tropical nature. Why do you ask?" Coryn could feel the elder's eyes were locked on him like a lion about to pounce on its prey. "Oh no reason. I just thought that maybe their could be some medicinal herbs that grew on the island that we may have some lore on." Coryn said he started examining a plant that was nearby. The elder kept his eyes on him but relaxed his stance, "You can look up some of it in the library, but I would forget about such a far off and dangerous place if I were you. Your talents would be of better use in the here and now."

Not long after that meeting, Coryn was replaced on the council by an up and coming prodigy, and was relocated as guardian of a village of wood elves. His dwelling was a half a days walk from town so he "wouldn't be constantly bothered" by the villagers. He suspected that something was up but he didn't have the power or resources to directly confront the council about it. Besides, it gave him plenty of time to examine his discovery in solitude. Overtime, the whispers began to slowly drive him mad. The whispers would only stop while he assumed the form of beasts, but he could only maintain that for a few hours a day. He poured over his research night and day without stopping except to sleep. He rarely bathed anymore and his teeth had turned yellow from eating only his "Magic Mushrooms " and meat of his kills.

The villagers started calling him Crazy Coryn based on his appearance and jittery nature while constantly mumbling: Atlantys. Tree. Home. They only visited him if they desperately needed medicine and healing. His only request for payment was that they bring him a live animal. They would quickly run away after their business was completed, their ears filled with roaring of the predator and the screams of its living payment. One time, a noble was passing through the village and felt ill. He was told that the village guardian would be able to cure him and was offered a goat for the noble to use as payment. The noble scoffed," Does he not know who I am? He will provide me with the best of care and will feel honored that I blessed him with my presence!" The noble rode up to where Coryn lived. After two days of not seeing the noble come back, some of the villagers went to investigate. They found him in a giant spider Web in the trees. He appeared like a piece of fruit whose insides had been completely sucked out and only the husk remained. A note was pinned to his chest: No manners. No animal. No service.

One day, Coryn caught wind of a shipping company that regularly took passengers and convicted criminals to the island of Atlantys. Now he could finally find some answers to make the voices stop. He journeyed to the port and dnd offered his services as physician and healer in exchange for passage to Atlantys. He also told the captain that he could provide nourishment for 60 people a day with his "Magic Mushrooms ". He demonstrated his claim by giving his quartermaster one to try. The captain was impressed and ordered the quartermaster to collect some more medicine kits to last the whole journey there. Coryn only asked that he be allowed to bring a crate of rats and grain for the rats with him. When questioned about them, Coryn merely said, "They are my snacks, and the grain is to keep them alive so they can make more snacks for me." The captain held up his hand," Okay okay enough. Fine I'm sorry I asked. Welcome aboard."
